I watched the rising of the shield hero a few years before watching this, and I gotta say Shield Hero was definitely the better anime. I'm just going to refer to The Rising as the Shield Hero as just Shield Hero so it doesn't take as long to type.They have similar protagonists who don't really give a sht about the world's social hierarchy and devote time into messing it up (However Naofumi, the MC in Shield Hero, does this out of pure hatred to obtain revenge for the crimes that he's suffered, a very interesting coping mechanism in the series when we realize the rest &nbspread more

One due to being thrown into task of being a hero unexpectantly and without choice, and the other being thrown into a dating sim with characters they absolutely despise.

Both protagonists are kind cranky and, deep down, has a difficult personality but a charismatic one, even if not a glorious one. In a sense, you could say the protagonists in both series have everything thing to be the cliché of the genre but they turn 180° in that premise with the middle finger on. Basically, this is what mades both anime and, honestly, their heroines aren't half bad so if you like smart ass protagonists but not glamorous one those might be good picks and, mainly Kyuukyoku, have interesting side characters but I enjoy the "chemistry" between them in both series nonetheless.

They have to do whatever it takes to become strong to survive a world like this. Only a few understands the main character for who they truly are. Leon demonstrate to be smug as much and, although not being exactly like Kazuma having a party of degenerates, Leon takes the stick having a not so loveable personality but getting the job done. They are your cynical protagonists not afraid of getting their hands dirty to accomplish something and, in their own way, they are kind more realistic than your brilliant knight persona protagonist cliché.
